COSAFA Plate Semis: Uganda fall against South Africa on penalties

During the post-match penalties that followed a 1-1 draw in normal time, Uganda lost to hosts South Africa by 4-2 at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Tuesday in the COSAFA Plate semi-finals.

After a barren opening 45 minutes, Vipers SC striker Daniel ‘Mzei’ Sserunkuma gave Uganda Cranes the lead upon restart in the 46th minute of the game with Juam Balinya playing in the through ball.

Bafana Bafana however restored matters back to level through Rudah Singh in the 72nd minute.

When it came to taking the spot kicks, KCCA FC duo Mustafa Kizza and Muzamir Mutyaba fell short of their attempts while Shafik Kagimu and Nicolas Kasozi converted their kicks.

South Africa on their other hand converted all their spot kicks to make the 2-4 in their favour.

The first stanza saw a couple of missed opportunities for Police FC’s Juma Balinya and Sserunkuma while Isaac Isinde’s headed effort was kept out by South Africa’s goalkeeper.

Starting XI: Lukwago Charles (GK), Willa Paul, Kizza mustapha, Isaac isinde (cpt), Revita john, Mutyaba Muzamir, Kasozi Nicholas, Birungi Michael, Kagimu shafik, Balinya Juma, Dan Serunkuma

Substitutes: Alitho James (GK), Paul Mbowa, Mucureezi Paul, Bright Anukani, Nelson Senkatuka, Daniel Isiagi, Mujjuzi Mustafa, Allan Kayiwa, Musana Hassan.

Changes: Allan Kayiwa came in for Mike Birungi, Bright Anukani for Balinya and Nelson Senkatuka for Serunkuma Dan
