Government boosts Cranes AFCON preparations with UGX 4.7bn

The government of the Republic of Uganda has boosted the Cranes’ preparations for the 2019 TOTAL African Cup of Nations final with UGX 4.7 billion.

According to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), the money “will be used for preparation of the Uganda Cranes and settlement of arrears attached to the National Senior team engagements.”

The 4.7 billion was the 4th installment that the local football governing body received from the central government in financial year 2018/2019, bringing the grand total to UGX 9,466,875,379.

“I thank HE President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mama Janet Museveni, Ministry of Finance, Minister of State for Sports Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi, National Council of Sports and various Government organs for playing a key role in the release of the funds,” FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo noted as quoted on the federation’s website.

“We are glad to receive this timely support from Government as two National teams are already in camp preparing for international tournaments due next month.”

At the moment, two Uganda Cranes teams are undergoing preparations for the AFCON Finals in Egypt and the COSAFA Tournament in South Africa, with the former in residential camp.
