It was a battle for superiority of two government agencies and a meeting of familiar acquaintances for coaches Mike Mutebi of KCCA FC and Omulangila Sam Ssimbwa of URA FC, sharing history of having played for the same club (KCCA) before and later alone becoming its tacticians, not to mention their stint with the national team.
In a highly anticipated fixture, skipper Timothy Awany was on target as Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club condemned Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club to their first defeat in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League this season.
The two sides played to a goalless first half. Although the tax collectors made a double substitution at upon restart with Odongo Tayo and Sseruyidde Moses replacing Sempa Charles and Ojera Joakim, their efforts remained fruitless as the visitor carried the day courtesy of Awany’s 56th minute goal.
Both goalkeepers had to produce some wonderful saves, with KCCA’s Charles Lukwago doing well to keep out Sseruyidde in the 74th minute to deny the hosts an equalizer.
Awany took home the Pilsner man of the match cash prize of UGX. 100,000 as KCCA consolidated their stay at the summit of the league table with 36 points from 15 games.
