Vipers win in Jinja to close point gap on leader KCCA FC – UPL

Bul FC vs Vipers - Freekick442

Vipers Sports Club moved second on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table and closed the point gap on leaders KCCA Football Club after winning away in Jinja on Wednesday evening.

The league defending champions beat Bul Football Club by 3-1 during their away trip to the FUFA Technical center in Njeru, Jinja.

Third choice goalkeeper Derrick Ochan made his league debut, replacing an injured Bashir Ssekagya while skipper Taddeo Lwanga and Geofery Wasswa returned to the starting XI after missing the trip to Algeria for the CAF Champions League due to suspension.

The Venoms drew first blood through the industrious goal poaching ‘Muzie” Dan Sserunkuma as early as the second minute and were 1-0 up by halftime.

After recess, prodigal son and former SC Villa star Villa Oromchan had other ideas as he netted to level matters for Bul but the hosts couldn’t fend off an attacking Vipers side and eventually succumbed to pressure with Tito Okello restoring the visitors lead in the 76th minute to make it 2-1.

Substitute Duncan Sseninde hammered the last nail in the coffin for coach Peter Onen’s side with just three minutes to full time.

3-1 it ended in favour of the Kitende based side, sending them second on the 16-team table with 24 points from 10 games, 3 points behind leaders KCCA FC, who have also played two games more.

Bul, on the other hand, are 6th with 19 points from 12 games.

Livingstone Mulondo was the man of the match

Vipers’ center back Livingstone Mulondo was voted the Pilsner man of the match and pocketed UGX 100,000.

Staff at Kitende will be hoping that the victory inspires them ahead of a tough fixture. The Hima Cement and DFCU sponsored side host Algeria’s CS Constantine in the return leg of the CAF Champions League, with a 1-0 deficit after losing during their away trip last week.
