Substitute Sserunkuma inspires Vipers to victory against Police FC

Dan Sserunkuma celebrates with teammates

2017/2018 Uganda Premier League top scorer ‘Muzei’ Dan Sserunkuma came off the bench to inspire reigning champions Vipers Sports Club to a 1-0 victory over a stubborn Police Football Club.

Vipers, who missed their action against Bul FC on match day 9 due to engagements in the CAF Champions preliminary round were desperate to back their title credential with a win against the Cops and also keep up with table leaders KCCA Football Club who were six points better than them before kick off.

The Venoms had however fired blanks for 75 minutes when coach Javier Martinez Espinoza introduced goal poacher Sserunkuma, withdrawing Duncan Sseninde whose first half attempt had been flagged for offside by first assistant referee Isa Masembe.

But earlier on, just five minutes into the second half, Davis Kasirye and Tom Masiko had paved way for Tito Okello and Jjanjali Joseph respectively.

Just two minutes on and Sserunkuma buried the ball into the back of the net off Geofrey Wasswa’s assist to give the hosts the advantaged that eventually turned out to be the match winner.

The striker was given the Pilsner Man of the Match award that comes with a cash prize of UGX 100,000 for his impact on the game.

The result saw Vipers maintain their unbeaten run and leapfrog Bright Stars FC and Onduparaka FC to take the second place on the table with 21 points from 9 games while KCCA FC lead the log with 24 points from 10 games.
