Liverpool’s star defender fractures his leg

Joe Gomez - Freekick442

Liverpool’s star defender Joe Gomes will be out for a period of six weeks or more after sustaining a fracture on his left leg during their Premier League clash with Burnley on Wednesday night.

The incident followed a challenge between the 21-year-old England international and Burnley skipper Ben Mee before being taken off in the 23rd minute.

Liverpool however managed to come from a goal down to win the tie by 3-1 at Turf Moor to keep pace with table leaders Manchester City, who beat Watford by 2-1 on Tuesday.

In a statement released by the Reds on Thursday, the club said “initial indications” were that Gomez would be out for at least six weeks, “though this is dependent on how his treatment and rehabilitation programmes progress”.

Gomez has been pivotal in Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, featuring in 13 of Liverpool’s Premier League games this season.
