Buganda Province win the inaugural FUFA Drum tournament

On Saturday 6th October 2018, Buganda Province engraved their name in the books of football history of Uganda as the won the inaugural FUFA Drum tournament.

Buganda edged West Nile on a 2-1 aggregate after a duel of over two legs before clinching the 2018 title in a competition that involved 16 teams.

Buganda traveled to Arua for the second leg of the finals with a 1-0 advantage. The two sides played out to a one-all draw in the clash at the Green Light Stadium in front of a mammoth Crowd.

A brilliant header from Bul FC’s Villa Oromchan off Rashid Okocha’s cross beat Onduparaka’s goalie Nicholas Sebwato who was between the sticks for Buganda with just four minutes into halftime.

West Nile team

Second half injuries for Geriga Atendere and Rashid Toha did the West Nilers no favours. Industrious forward Viane Ssekajugo then leveled matters for the visiting side in the 79th minute to break the hearts of thousands of the West Nile fans that were in attendance.

The equalizer saw Buganda be eventually crowned champions on a 2-1 aggregate and also taking home a cash prize of UGX. 32 million while the losing finalists pocketed UGX. 15 million.

Ssekajugo was named Man of the Match and later on the tournament MVP (Most Valuable Player) while Buganda Province gaffer Alex Isabirye Musongoola was voted as the best coach.
