North and South Korea to jointly bid for 2032 Olympics

Two former arch rivals, for decades, now turned friends, North and South Korea have agreed to jointly bid for the summer Olympics 2032.

According to BBC Sport, “the bid was agreed by South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at a meeting in Pyongyang.”

In the most recent events, the two countries fielded joint teams at major events and won the first gold together at the Asian Games in August.

Four other nations that include China, India, Indonesia and Australia have also expressed interest in hosting the 2032 edition of the Olympic Games.

“South Korea staged the Winter Olympics this year, and the capital Seoul hosted the 1988 Summer Games. North Korea’s May Day Stadium is the largest in the world with a reported capacity of 150,000,” BBC Sport states.
