Uganda Cranes goalkeeper joins Ethiopian topflight side

Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and now ex-Vipers Sports Club shot stopper Ismail Watenga has joined Ethiopian topflight side Ethiopia Bunna.

The 2017/2018 Uganda Premier League champion with Vipers signed a two-year contract with the Ethiopian Premier League side.

At the time of his departure from Uganda, Watenga was being courted by Sports Club Villa after he had failed to agree to a new deal with the Venoms, bringing his six-year-old relationship with the Kitende based side to an end.

Bunna finished third on the league table in the previous campaign, behind their arch rivals of St. George, who came second after champions Jimma Aba Jifar.

The custodian joins a long list of other Uganda Cranes goalkeepers that have had a stint in the Ethiopian Premier League. These include; Robert Ondongkara, Posnet Omony, Denis Onyango and Hannington Kalyesubula.
