Versatile midfielder cum defender Deus Bukenya has signed for Botswana topflight side Police XI Football Club.
The 25-year-old joins the side as a free agent after parting ways with Uganda Premier League champions Vipers Sports Club, where his contract was not renewed at the end of his four-year spell with the Venoms.
Speaking about the transfer, the player’s agent Pike Okello told Kawowo Sports that the Uganda Cranes midfielder had penned a two-year deal with the club.
“Yes. It is indeed true that Deus Bukenya has moved to Botswana Premier League club Police XI on a two -ear deal”
“We thank the club management for the patience. Personally, I thank the FUFA officials who cooperated with the Botswana FA for the International Transfer Certificate (ITC),” the quote further stated.
Bukenya, who has often been played as a center-back and sometimes as a right full-back has been training with the club since traveling to Botswana about three weeks ago.
In Botswana, he joins a host of Ugandan players who feature for different clubs in the country’s top tier. These include Alfred Leku at Jwaneng Galaxy, Ivan Ntege aka “Kojja” of Township Rollers and former Soana FC striker Francis Olaki at Extension Gunners among others.
The Botswana Premier League is scheduled to kick off on 18th September 2018 while here in Uganda, it remains to be known when the new season begins.
