Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder William Kizito Luwagga has joined FC BATE Borisov in the Belarus Premier League.
The former Sporting Covilha, Leixoes and Fereinse midfielder (all in Portugal) joins the side from Romanian’s Politehnica Lasi on a season-long loan.
“I am glad to join the club with such serious ambitions. Never before in the European stage of my career I have not had to fight for the victory in the championship and the exit to the group stages of European competition,” Luwagga told the club’s website in an interview.
Luwaga, also formerly at Vipers Sports Club leaves Politehnica Lasi after just one season, having joined them from Portuguese outfit Rio Ave. At BATE Borisov, he will don jersey number 21.
The midfielder helped Politehnica Lasi finish 6th last season after making 28 appearances and scoring thrice.
He is part of the 30-man squad that Uganda Cranes gaffer Sebastien Desabre has summoned to face off with the Taifa Stars on Tanzania on September 8th at Namboole stadium in the Group L opener of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He joins BATE Borisov just in time as they prepare to take on Dutch’s premier side PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League playoffs that kick off next week.
“Together with the Portuguese "Rio Ave" and the Romanian "Polytechnic", we claimed to get into the zone of the Europa League, but BATE is another matter,”Luwagga said.
“I'm looking forward to the day when I will come to the first training in the ranks of the new team and start working!” He added.
