Arsenal are close to signing Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira from Italian Serie A outfit Sampdoria.
The Gunners who are undergoing major changes this summer consider strengthening their defense and central midfield a major priority.
Arsenal are now in serious talks to sign the 22-year-old for a reported £26m, a fee that is believed to be well within their transfer budget.
Nonetheless, no preliminary agreement has been reached yet for Torreira, who is currently in Russia with the Uruguay national team for the World Cup.
Unai Emery’s side are also keen on recruiting a goalkeeper. They have already secured the signature for Swiss right fullback Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus and centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund whose deal will be confirmed in July.
