Tonny Mawejje joins Long An in Vietnam and Hamis Kizza off to Sudan

Uganda Cranes midfielder Tony Mawejje has joined Vietnam top flight side Long An after agreeing to a one-year deal and is scheduled to undergo a medical on Saturday.

“First of all, I am excited that Tonny has moved to Long An in Vietnam where he is expected to get as much playing time as possible. He will be traveling to Besiktas of Turkey for trials in August,” the player’s manager, Edwin Kasule is quoted on Kawowo Sports.

Mawejje has previously played for Masaka Local Council before joining Kampala City Council (now KCCA FC), Police FC and later on URA FC. He then joined Iceland side Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (IBV) in 2009 where he spent three seasons.

The holding midfielder was loaned to South Africa’s Golden Arrows before moving to Norwegian side Fotballklubben Haugesund, from where he was loaned to Knattspyrnufélagið Valur in Iceland. He also featured for Thróttur Reykjaví and Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur.

Meanwhile, Uganda Revenue Football Club (URA FC) striker ‘Diego’ Hamis Kizza is off to Sudan in a bid to seal a move to El Hilal El Obeid.

The Uganda Cranes forward left yesterday in the company of his agent and former football sensation Suleiman Mike Mutyaba who quit the game early this year.

The North Sudanese side El Hilal El Obeid who will be featuring in this year’s CAF Confederations Cup take on Angola’s Clube Recreativo Desportivo Do Libolo at their Estado De Calulu in Luanda on Sunday in their Group C opener.

Kizza started his career at the inoperative Nalubale FC before joining URA FC where he played between 2006 & 2011, scooping the Uganda Premier League top scorers’ accolade in 2010/2011.

He then moved to Yanga in Tanzania where he spent a four-year spell and later to Simba where he played last season, scoring a whopping 24 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions. Kizza then joined Free State Stars where he had a short spell before returning home to play for the Tax Collectors.

In Sudan, he joins Uganda Cranes third choice goalkeeper Salim Jamal Magoola who features for El Merriekh FC.  

Meanwhile, reports from Kenya indicated that Tusker FC left back and Ugandan international Shafik Batambuze signed a 2year Pre-contract with Tanzanian new boys Singida United. He is expected to join the rest of the team after the current Kenyan Premier League season.
