The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled Pay TV giants StarTimes as the new sponsors for the Uganda Premier League and the FUFA Big League.
The 10-year deal worth US $7.24m (approximately over UGX 26.6billion) that will see StarTimes as the official broadcasters of the topflight and second tier league football was announced on Thursday 9th August 2018 at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
Flanked by FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo on the left and Aldrine Nsubuga, the Vice president Marketing and Branding on the right, Star Times Chief Executive Officer Andy Wang said;
“We have secured the exclusive rights for title and broadcasting rights of the Uganda Premier League and the FUFA Big League for a period of ten years.”
“The relationship is worth US$ 7,240,000. We undertook this decision to give back to the people of Uganda Because of their passion and support. We appeal for everyone to support and embrace StarTimes so that we can grow together,” he added.
The deal also gives naming rights to the sponsors and hence the two leagues will be called the StarTimes Premier League and the StarTimes Big League respectively.
StarTimes takes over from Azam TV, who were the sponsors and broadcasters of the Uganda Premier League for the last three and half years in a deal that was $1.9M (Ush. 5.4 Billion).
