The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has set the Super 8 preseason Tournament for August.
The 2018/2019 pre-season tournament that will run for a period of three weeks between 1st and 25th August 2018 has been incentivized with Prize Money to the tune of UGX 30 million to be shared by all 8 clubs that will take part in this year's edition.
Eventual winners will walk away with UGX 10,000,000 while the Runners-up will take home UGX 5,000,000.
The 8 teams that are expected to take part in the competition automatically qualify under the following criteria as stated by the federation.
- The top 6 ranked teams from the previous season of the 1st Division League (Uganda Premier League) 2017/18 season.
- The Top 2 ranked teams from the previous season of the 2nd Division League (FUFA Big League).
- No registration fee is required to participate in this tournament.
“In the unlikely event that any of the above teams is unable to participate, priority shall be given to the next ranked team in the 1st Division from the previous season,” reads a statement on the local football governing body’s website.
All teams that want to take part in the competition are expected have registered by end of Thursday 12th July 2018 and submit their squads by Friday 20th July 2018 to the FUFA Competitions’ Department.
“The format of play is a single-tie knockout tournament.”
Under the above criteria, the following teams would qualify
From the Uganda Premier League:
Vipers SC, KCCA FC, SC Villa, Onduparaka FC, Kirinya Jinja SSS FC and Bul FC
From the FUFA Big League:
Ndejje University and Nyamityobora FC
