After being at the team’s helm for last four years, Eng. Immanuel Ben Muguluma Misagga is in a bid for a second term in office as Sports Club Villa president.
The incumbent declared his candidature for the forthcoming August 2018 elections on Sunday during a press briefing held at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Misagga noted as quoted by an online source;
First of all, I thank the earlier leaders at Sports Club Villa Jogoo as Patrick Kawooya and Franco Mugabe as well as others who laid a strong foundation to have such a great footballing club in Uganda. I have witnessed three elections at SC Villa Jogoo. This club is the fountain of Uganda’s football. We have always set a precedent for the rest of the clubs in Uganda. As per Article 39, I am tasked with the responsibility of appointing the electoral committee and appeals committee. I will be standing for the up-coming Sports Club Villa Jogoo elections. I appeal to FUFA to respect our constitution.
Since taking over the club’s mantle in 2014, Villa have gone on to win one major title (the Uganda Cup in 2015), managed to bring pay TV Star Times as the club’s shirt sponsors. He also attracted the fans back to the team and in the process boosted the sale of club’s merchandise such as jerseys and Villa water.
The other four contenders vying for the position include;
Edgar Muhairwe Agaba, a city lawyer who also doubles as an NSSF board member, Denis Mbidde Ssebugwawo, Muhammed Bazirengedde who served as vice president to Misagga before the two fell out for unknown reasons as well as former club player Gibby Kalule. Kalule is currently a FIFA players’ intermediary.
The August elections will be overseen by an electoral committee chaired by Major Evelyn Asiimwe, a UPDF Member of Parliament. Assimwe will be assisted by Sarah Babirye Kityo, a parliamentarian representing Buganda region youth, police officer Musa Bilunda, interim CEO Ivan Kakembo and Sarah Adong as the spokesperson.
