Former Sports Club Villa tactician Steven Bogere has taken over as the new head coach at Uganda Premier League side Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) Football Club.
The former Uganda Cranes midfielder comes in to feel the void left by Cranes interim coach Moses Basena who is said to have resigned citing the need to concentrate on his engagements with the national team.
The development was confirmed by the club in an official statement released on Tuesday, part of which reads that;
“The Executive Committee of UPDF FC received the letter of resignation from former head coach Moses Basena, in which he expressed his desire to have full commitment to the national team (Uganda Cranes). We accepted his request in the true spirit of the national team.”
Bogere, who abandoned FUFA Big League side Plascon, formerly known as Sadolin Paints FC kicked off his work on Tuesday as the army side lost 1-0 to Police FC at Bombo Military Stadium.
He has also previously handled Buddu Ssaza in the Buganda Masaza annual competition.
On the other hand, Coach Moses Basena’s interim stint at the mantle of the Uganda Cranes officially ends on 11th November 2017 as the national team play away to Congo Brazzaville in their final Group E game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
