The journey from Kampala back to Mbarara for newcomers Mbarara City Football Club won’t be a pleasant one after they were to put to the sword by Proline Football Club in a 3-0 thumping on Friday evening.
Proline, under the tutelage of CAF instructor Majib Kasule beat the Ankole Lions to register their second victory of the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) in a game played at the StarTimes Stadium Lugogo. Their first win was 2-0 against Soana FC at home.
The hosts were off to a quick start with striker Bayo Fahad putting them in the lead as early as the 4th minute of the game with a brilliant header off Sula Matovu’s cross.
Moments later Sula Matovu took matters in his own hands as he dribbled passed skipper Asuman Alishey to bury the ball in the back of the net in the 23rd minute but failed to beat past goalkeeper Ali Kimera ten minutes later with his glorious opportunity.
In the second stanza, Mbarara City head coach Viali Bainomugisha made amends bringing on Sam Kansiime, Kalanzi and Macho Bassey but his changes made no serious impact as they were further punished on the day.
In the 62nd minute, team captain Joseph Mandela led by example as he scored a header off Bayo Fahad cross to make it 3-0.
The game eventually ended with the visitors failing to get the least of a consolation goal and Proline FC walked off the pitch with their heads high after picking maximum points.
The result put Proline to 7points while Mbarara City remains on 5points.
