Fred Okot and Labama Bokota were on target as four-time league winners Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club kicked off their 2017/2018 campaign with a 2-1 victory over UPDF Football in the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL).
In a game played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, Okot netted on the stroke of halftime to give the Tax Collectors a lead.
Eight minutes into the second half, Bokota double the lead for the hosts while Walter Rubankene pulled one back for the army side in the 77th minute.
The victory puts the Ibrahim Kirya-coached side on top of the AUPL table, above SC Villa who managed to beat Soana FC by 1-0 yesterday.
Elsewhere, travelers of Kirinya Jinja SSS FC held Express FC to a goalless draw in the other game played on Wednesday.
In front of a sizeable crowd at Muteesa II Memorial Stadium Wankulukuku, Express goalie Buule made three important saves while Isaac Ntege hit the woodwork for the visitors. Musa Esenu also had a penalty appeal denied as Kirinya were frustrated into a 0-0 draw on the evening.
The league continues on Friday and Saturday for match day two.
