16-time league record champions Sports Club Villa ended their season on a high note with a 1-0 victory over four-time winner Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club (URA FC) in a game played at Masaka Recreation Grounds.
Striker Umar Kasumba, goal scorer in the Jogoos 1-0 win over Vipers Sports Club on Tuesday this week was once again on target in the first stanza for the home side as both sides played their final game of the 2016/2017 Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) season.
Despite having failed to win the title that they continue to search for since 2004, Villa will have positives to carry from this season and moving forward in comparison to the previous campaign. The Blues have managed 16 wins, 10 draws and only losses, finishing second on the sixteen team log with a tally of 58 points.
In the previous campaign (2015/2016), the Jogoos finished fourth below their arch rivals Express and Vipers with 50 points after 13 win, 11 draws and losses.
On the other hand, URA have finished fourth with 48 points, 11 victories, 15 draws and 4 losses—only a point better than last season in which they finished fifth.
The AUPL season ends tomorrow with seven fixtures on card.
