Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) head coach Mike Ray Mutebi says that his side and last season’s champions Vipers Sports Club are the favorites to win the 2018/2019 StarTimes Uganda Premier League title.
Mutebi made the remarks in a pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s gigantic clash between KCCA FC and Vipers.
“16 clubs are competing in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to be crowned champions. KCCA and Vipers are arguably the favorites to win the title but it's a marathon and we just have to concentrate and stay focused,” he said.
The Kasasiro Boys travel to St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende to take on the reigning champions in a top of the table clash, which coach Mike promises to be an entertaining game.
“It's going to be a good game, a closely contested game and i expect goals to be scored. Vipers have the edge because they're playing at home in Kitende but there's no pressure.
Vipers SC come into this game with a Psychological edge of having a foreign coach (Javier Martinez Espinosa) but at the end of the day it's the players to perform on the pitch, not the coach.
I don't care if the match ends 5-4 in favor of KCCA of course, as long as the fans enjoy an interesting game of football with both teams pressing forward.”
The tie comes as early as matchday six at a time when the Venoms are leading the pack with 13 points from 5games while, KCCA, despite still being unbeaten fall short of the leaders by two points.
Vipers won their last home tie against their Saturday opponents by 3-2 before losing to the same side in the Uganda Cup final mid-way this year and later on, 4-2 on penalties in this season’s curtain raiser of the FUFA Super cup in September.
