The long wait got over on Monday afternoon as the Uganda Premier League secretariat finally released a draft of fixtures for the first round with just days away to kick off.
However, this came when reports had started circulating that some big teams had been intimated to about which sides they would face in their first few games as per the draft fixture.
As had already been announced, top flight football is scheduled to kick off this week on Friday 28th September with seven fixtures to be played across different stadia.
According to the fixtures, reigning champions Vipers Sports Club open their title defence at home against newly promoted side Ndejje University at St. Mary’s Stadium in Ketende as coach Martinez takes charge of his second competitive game since taking over with his first being a 4-2 loss to KCCA FC on penalties that followed a goalless draw in normal time in the FUFA Super Cup during the weekend.
The match will also be the first of many to be televised live on TV by new league sponsors of StarTimes on Sanyuka TV.
In a similar line of events, Mbarara City FC, Nyamityobora FC and Bul FC have yet to be cleared on venues where they will be hosting their home games after Kakyeeka and Kankindu Stadiums were not approved.
Meanwhile, Kirinya Jinja SS FC have shifted home ground from the Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe to the Mighty Arena at Jinja SS in Jinja.
