On-form striker Derrick Nsibambi scored twice as Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) condemned Nigeria’s Rivers United FC to a 2-1 defeat in the Total CAF Confederations Cup.
In a game played on the artificial turf at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Nsibambi found the breakthrough as he netted to give the hosts a deserved lead in the 16th minute.
Moments later, Bolaji Sakin exploited the linesman’s blind moment as he netted from what seemed to be an offside position to restore matters back to level. The Kasasiro Boys squandered a few opportunities before the match official sent the game to a recess.
The second half had a slow start and in the 68th minute, teenager Allan Okello was withdrawn for holding midfielder Ivan Ntege.
Two minutes later, Nsibambi controlled the ball well before firing into the back of the net off Tom Masiko’s exquisite free kick floated into the area to restore the yellow boys’ lead.
Eight minutes after scoring his second of the day, the striker was withdrawn for Paul Mucureezi while Vincent Kayizzi paved way for newly elevated youngster Julius Poloto (from the KCCA U-17 side) as he was handed his debut in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The result put KCCA FC level on points (six) with group leaders FUS Rabat, the leader topping Group A with a better goal difference.
