KCCA FC advances to the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup

Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) advanced to the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday evening after getting the better of Al-Masry by 4-3 in post-match penalty shootouts.

The Ugandan continental representatives enjoyed better fortunes in the land of the Pharaohs thanks to goalie Benjamin Ochan’s heroics that made the ultimate difference for KCCA to win a slot in the group stages.

Following the Kasasiro Boys’ 1-0 victory in Kampala, Al-Masry were out for blood on the evening as they put the visitors to the back of their foot and in the 25th minute, Ahmed Gomma broke the deadlock to give the hosts a lead.

However, subsequent attacks from the Egyptian side remained fruitless as the two sides locked at 1-1 on aggregate, sending them to the spot kicks.

The Penalty Shootout

Benjamin Ochan was the first in goal but failed to stop Ossama Moursi's kick before Geoffrey Sserunkuma did the same for KCCA’s first kick.

Ochan then saved Said Elsaid and Ahmed Monsour’s kicks while Muzamiru Mutyaba and Timothy Awany converted theirs respectively for KCCA to lead by 3-1.

Once again, the day’s goal scorer Ahmed Gomma made no mistake to get the better of Ochan before Brian Majwega fired his spot kick on the cross bar while Elsayed Abdelaal converted his to give Al-Masry hope with the score at 3-2.

Benjamin Ochan then stepped out, this time not in the goal posts but at the spot kick which he converted well to send the Kasasiro Boys into jubilations.
