Substitute Sserunkuma fires Uganda to crucial away victory against Cape Verde

Kampala Capital City Authority FC striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma came off the bench to score as Uganda clinched a crucial away victory against Cape Verde on Sunday evening in their opening Group L game of the 2019 AFCON Qualifiers.

After barren first half, the teams returned to an entertaining second stanza that remained fruitless for either side before Emmanuel Okwi was withdraw for Sserunkuma.

Five minutes on the turf and the veteran striker was already on target with a goal in the 83rd minute that eventually turned out to be the match winner.

Earlier one, Isaac Muleme had paved way for Milton Karisa as coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic beefed up his attacking force while Derrick Nsibambi was later brought off for KCCA-teammate Timothy Awanyi.

New team skipper Dennis Masinde Onyango was also sensational in goal with a number of important saves as the Cranes won to lead Group L with three points followed by Lesotho and Tanzania with a point each and Cape Verde bottom.
