Despite of challenges that befell Cameroon during pre-tournament preparations like the withdrawal of key players such as Joel Matip and Eric Choupo-Moting, coach Hugo Broos managed to assemble a squad that got their reward for being strong, adaptable and resilient in equal measure throughout.
All the above issues never stopped Cameroon to shine at the Afcon in Gabon where they managed to win a couple of matches to reach the quarter finals then to semi-finals and finally to the finals where they met with a no-joking team of the Pharaohs.
The final that happened on Sunday, 5th February was a history made after Cameroon managed to take a lead in a game that was first conquered by Egyptians.
The first goal of the match that came from Elneny in the 22nd minute of the first half, left Cameroonians speechless and Pharaohs jubilating till an equalizer from Nkoulou in the 59th minute of second half of the match.
The ball kept rolling in the 2nd half till Vincent Aboubakar scored the second goal for Cameroon making it a 2-1 lead and of course the winning goal in the final.
This concluded by crowning Cameroon the Champions of Africa Cup of Nations 2017. And Egypt taking the 2nd place followed by Burkina Faso in 3rd place after beating Ghana 1-0 on Saturday, February 4th.
Congrats to the Cameroon national team :)
