The Caterpillars of Onduparaka FC burnt Police Football in a 2-1 victory on Sunday evening at the Green Light Stadium in Arua as Match 12 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League took shape.
Team captain Rashid Toha led by example converting from the penalty spot in the 10th minute to give coach Simeon Masaba’s side a lead. The penalty followed a foul on Okocha in the forbidden area.
Goalkeeper Nicholas Sebwato had to put up an exceptional performance to maintain Onduparaka’s lead against a Police side that were determined to get back into the game in the opening 45 minutes while his counterpart on the opposite side of the pitch Davis Mutebi did the same to keep the hosts at bay to end it 1-0 by halftime.
After recess, former Express FC and KCCA FC striker Caesar Samson Okhuti scored to double the lead for the Caterpillars in the 56th minute.
Nonetheless, the Cops were quick to respond with a goal just three minutes later through Simon Mbazira but it only turned out to be a consolation as the hosts won the duel by 2-1 with Okhuti walking away with the Pilsner Man of the Match prize (UGX 100,000).
The victory elevated Onduparaka FC to second place on the league table with 23 points from 12 games while coach Abdullah Mubiru’s side dropped to 9th with 17 points from a similar number of games.
Elsewhere, Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club taxed Bright Stars FC with a 2-0 result on their away trip to the Champion Stadium in Mwererwe.
The result came after seven consecutive draws against Maroons, Nyamityobora, SC Villa, Bul, Police, Tooro United and Mbarara City for the Tax Collectors.
Two goals in each half from Robert Omunuk and Charles Ssempa respectively earned Coach Sam Ssimbwa all the three points as his side stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games and moved 7th on the league table with 17 points.
Robert Omunuk netted from a direct freekick past Hamza Muwonge in goal in the 30th minute while Charles Ssempa stumped the visitors’ victory with a goal in the 75th minute.
The result saw Bright Stars lose their first game at home this season but a second defeat in a row, keeping them 5th with 19 points.
Away to Jinja, the Eastern derby between Bul FC and Kirinya Jinja SSS FC ended in a 2-2 draw.
The visitors of Bul squandered a 2-0 lead to share the spoils with the home side.
Farouk Banga and Deogracious Ojok had given Bul the advantage with goals in the 1st and 30th minutes respectively while Fred Amaku pulled one back for the hosts 11 minutes after restart and Joel Madondo leveled matters for his side by the 66th minute.
