It has been confirmed that Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey will leave Arsenal at the end of the season after the club told him in person why he will not be offered a new contract.

Recently, during the international break, the midfielder expressed his dissatisfaction to the fact that nobody from the club had directly explained to him why they had withdrawn his offer for a new long-term contract after terms had been agreed.

According to Sky Sports, the club held “discussions with the player over the weekend” as the Gunners shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw away to Crystal Palace on Sunday, for which he came on a substitute.

The 27-year-old “has now accepted that this will be his last season at the Emirates after a decade of service”, during which he made 341 appearances and netted 59 goals since joining the north London club “from Cardiff City for just under £5m in 2008”.

During his Arsenal career, the midfielder helped the club win three FA Cup trophies in 2014, 2015 and 2017 under manager Arsene Wenger, scoring the winner in two of those finals.

Under new head coach Unai Emery, he has made 15 appearances – including six Premier League starts.

“Aaron and the club can speak and he can think for his individual contract with the club and with his thinking maybe of the possibility that he won’t continue here,” Emery, who has been impressed by his performance said.

“But, for me, for us and for the team, it’s about being together and getting better and in each training for us,” he added, hoping that the player will remain focused on the rest of the campaign.
