Crested Cranes into COSAF Women Championship semifinals

The Crested Cranes are into the semifinals of the COSAFA Women Championship following a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe on Monday afternoon in their third fixture at the competition.

The win saw Uganda finish top of the Group C with a tally of seven points to progress to the last four of the tournament.

Two second half goals from substitute Juliet Nalukenge and team skipper Tracy Jones Akiror were enough to secure victory over the 2011 champions. Nalukenge and Akiror both feature for Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC in the FUFA Women Elite League.

Nalungenge replaced Resty Nanziri (a goal scorer in the opening game against Swaziland) before netting in the 73rd minute. Five minutes later, Akiror doubled the lead when she headed home off Hasifah Nassuuna’s corner kick.

In the 90th minute, Zimbabwe pulled one back but couldn’t find the equalizer in the six minutes of added time.

Meanwhile, Crested Cranes defender Shadia Nankya was voted Lady of the match.
